2022.01.18 13:20 UnknownFactoryEnes Grammar books' way of grouping tenses

Why English grammar books in English separate all other time tenses and the future tenses apart while the books (which are in Turkish) I learned it from collect all 12 tenses in a group? Honestly, I find the way our books do it to be more consistent. But why natives do vice versa? Are future tenses actually different things than present tenses and past tenses?

2022.01.18 13:20 Monster_Chief17 Reality check - How many of you actually know that Ethereum Classic is the original Ethereum and that the Satoshi wallet holds over 1M BTC which could crash the market in seconds?

If you look at the top 10 in crypto today you will find a lot of centralized databases disguised as blockchains and projects with questionable inception stories.
Seems to me we got into this mess because people don't actually know what is the end goal of crypto and why decentralization matters in every single aspect of a blockchain, including token distribution.
If one person can crash the market by selling what they are holding in their wallet would you call that fair? I mean sure, Satoshi was one of the first to ever start mining BTC but they were also the first to even know what it was and how it works.
This is, by any definition, an unfair advantage that resulted in over 1M BTC sitting in a Satoshi wallet to probably never be moved in the future but who can really give us that guarantee? For comparison, this is the same as if Vitalik would hold 6 Million Ethereum to his name.
Speaking of Vitalik, it would also be interesting to know how many people here actually know that Ethereum Classic is "the real" Ethereum that once had a simple ideology - code is law.
For those out of the loop, the ETH DAO was hacked and a chain rollback was performed so that early investors don't get rekt. Yes, ETH had the best interest of what we would today call VCs before the code that was supposed to be law.
Just wondering how common is this common knowledge?

2022.01.18 13:20 BucinVols Can you create an @ 'group' for multiple people?

I googled for this and I'm not entirely sure how to phrase this or if it's even possible. Basically what I'm looking for is being able to use the @ function like you would for a single person, but instead make it notify a specific group of people.
For example, I have 5 people on my team and we're all in several channels together. Often times, I want to notify just those on my team in that channel so I'm not notifying everyone with @ here, but also not having to type out every person's @. So instead I'd like to do @ myteam (or whatever) and only those attached to that @ will get the notification.
Is that possible?

2022.01.18 13:20 wholesome-oat I hope my brother knows how much I love him

TW: mentions of abuse & suicide
---
When I was a kid I HATED my brother because my parents had favoured him over me. It drove me insane that a babbling, drooling baby took up all their attention that was supposed to be distributed amongst the two of us. As children, we never got along. Me and my brother are only 2 years apart, and so naturally, we shared a lot more in common than those siblings with larger age gaps. That meant toys, play spaces, and the likes of it—and so of course, we fought over them a lot.
I will be very straightforward though when I say that our childhood was less than ideal. Both our parents were emotionally unavailable, and my father was so preoccupied with work we barely saw him. My mother was never fond of children, and had quite the temper. She often complained about how having children ruined her (she had us quite young), and wasn't emotionally equipped for them. Normal childhood behaviours such as accidentally spilling water, or tripping rarely went unpunished. And the punishments were often extreme and out of proportion to the severity of the mistakes.
I recall one time in 3rd grade, having forgotten my revision folder at school, and my mother being so upset about it that she was taken the toy lightsaber my brother got for his birthday, and hit me repeatedly with it until it shattered into a million little pieces on the floor. Following that, I was kicked out of the house in the middle of a thunderstorm, left to wander the neighbourhood as my mother shouted profanities from the door.
And as much as I hated my brother, even then I knew to put our differences aside and be what an older sibling was supposed to be. I hated my mother's punishments, and the way scars looked on my body, and how horrible I felt afterwards so I always did my very best to make sure the same wouldn't happen for my brother.
Both my brother and I are crybabies, we're not sure why—our mother hated us crying, so we would console ourselves. Back then when we still shared a room, I remember sitting cross legged on the bed with my brother, handing him tissues and patting him on the back after he had gotten a beating. I guess the thing about siblings is that no matter how much you fight, you're still there for each other whenever it matters. Like yes I would give you my kidney, but no you cannot borrow my charger.
And as the years passed, we got closer—and now I'm glad to say that my brother is sort of like my best friend. I love talking to him and spending time with him. When we had eventually gotten our own rooms, my brother refuses to stop (endearingly) bugging me by walking in during random times of the day just to see what I'm doing. And when our parents leave the dining room because they've finished lunch, sometimes we stay for another hour or two to just talk and gossip and laugh.
During times in which our mother gets violent, we protect and defend each other—and I can't say how happy I am to be able to have such a wonderful bond with him. Given that I partially raised him when we were children, there's also a strange amount of satisfaction and fulfilment I get when I see him grown into the thoughtful, funny, and sweet person he is.
Though having known him for 15 years, and having so much of our lives entwined with the other—he still manages to surprise me with his insight and thought processes. Sometimes it feels as if I've severely underestimated him in terms of his capabilities.
Now though, I'm a high school senior, and I'm going to move half way across the world for university, and when I think of my family, I think of him the most—I think I'll miss him the most. I realise that once I move out, I'm likely never going to live under the safe room with him again, and we'll likely have spent 80% of our time together in our childhood. We'll grow up and be busy with our own things, on our jobs, our families—our lives will separate.
And I can't come to terms with that. I am terrified of leaving him, and growing apart. I'm scared for how he's going to do if my mother were to get violent again and I'm not there to stop her. If something were to happen, I would never be able to forgive myself—because I'm his big sister, and I'm supposed to protect him.
But I can't ever tell him these things aloud. I'll definitely cry before I have the chance to finish, and we were never good with words anyway. I think 'I love you' is overrated, and feels awkward to say out loud.
So instead I'm making tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches for tomorrow's breakfast. Instead, I stuff his sandwich with extra cheese, an I set my alarm an hour earlier than I normally would so we can eat it before class starts. And I'll cut it up, and plate it pretty—even make those little swirls with the heavy cream on the soup—and we'll eat them together in the morning before our parents wake up, when the house is quiet and kept to ourselves.
And I'll hope he knows how much I love him.
